Last issue

The conception of the journal

The assistance of the development of a methodology of interdisciplinary synthesis of the regional (socio-territorial) systems knowledge is the main purpose of the journal, as well as planning
and programming further regional studies based on it.
To achieve this goal, our work suggests the parallel solution of the following tasks:

monitoring and critical evaluation of current publications and scientific life of regional community (primarily in Russian
Far East);
organization of discussions on the theoretical and methodological problems of regional studies;
promotion of ideas and methodology of interdisciplinary synthesis;
preparing and making available to the scientific audience programs of basic and applied regional studies and coverage results of their implementation.

About the journal

The first issue of the journal (originally almanac) «Ojkumena. Regional researches» was published in December 2006. The initiative to create the journal belonged to a group of young researchers working in different universities of the Primorye Territory. Despite the diversity of their specific scientific interests, members of the initiative group were convinced of the necessity and possibility of the existence of regionology as a unified in its methodological basis synthetic knowledge. Since the implementation of this approach to the conduct of regional studies implies integrating methodological research community and a focal point, the idea of publishing «Ojkumena» appeared. Proceed to the embodiment of this long-term project we were allowed friendly position of senior colleagues of the guild and material support provided by a branch of the Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service in the city of Nakhodka.

The audience: authors and readers

The authors and the readers of our journal are university teachers and employees of the academic institutions of the Far East and other regions of Russia. The journal`s issues are regularly sent to libraries and research organizations in Moscow, the largest scientific centers in Siberia and the Far East. The scientists from the Asia-Pacific region publish own researches on «Ojkumena`s» pages. The editorship attaches particular importance to attract the readers and, of course, the authors of the publication of young regionoligists, graduate students etc. The principal criteria in the selection of publications in «Ojkumena» have been and remain no formal status and departmental affiliation of the author, but, above all, quality and originality of the submissions, their focus on the regional (territorial) aspect of human life and society.
